Sharpening the Sword in the Cold Winter: A Chronicle of the 2025 Winter Tournament of the Queensland Golf Association, Victoria

We're serious about having fun.

On May 19, 2025, the crisp, early winter air of Melbourne carried the chill of the Heidelberg Golf Club nestled in the foothills as it hosted the fierce competition of the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Kunlun Golf Association Winter Tournament. Twenty-eight members gathered at this mountain course, renowned for its rugged terrain and swift greens, to test both their skills and endurance in the 10°C temperatures.

At 12:30 pm, the match officially began as the first white ball pierced the cool air.On the court, the heavy thuds of hitting the ball mingled with occasional bursts of cheers, injecting vibrant life into the solemn backdrop of the snow-capped mountains.Although Heidelberg Golf Club is the "home" course for many members of the Kunlun Virginia branch, today the fairways were undulating, the greens were steep and extremely fast, and the low temperatures increased the hardness of the turf, making putting almost unforgiving. "Every shot has to be as precise as a machine," several long-time members complained.

The challenging course significantly increased the unpredictability of the match, but also brought more possibilities. At the end of the competition, several players won their first awards, and the emergence of numerous "dark horses" made the field a place where dreams came true. After the competition, everyone moved to the banquet hall for the awards ceremony during the dinner.

As the taillights gradually illuminate the way home, the golf course falls silent once more in early winter. Those moments of swinging a club in the cold wind will eventually become a shared winter fairytale in the hearts of Kunlun members—the best result is always finishing 18 holes with friends, laughing together.
